It gave a quick reference of persons wanted, their crimes, and often a brief description of the fugitive. Gillett made entries whenever a fugitive was killed or captured. On the blank pages, he listed and described numerous other fugitives including Sam Bass and his gang. 5948

Gillett bound his copy along with blank notebook paper in a buckled leather case to carry in his saddlebags. He made various pencilled entries whenever a fugitive was killed or captured. On the blank pages, he listed and described numerous other fugitives including Sam Bass and his gang. This is a facsimile along with illustrations of reward posters, Gillett's calling cards, and other ephemera found tucked into his personal coopy of "The Book. " 4572
